An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up
and flinging them back into the ocean. "Why do you bother?" the old man scoffed. "You're not saving enough to make a difference." The
young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. "Made a difference to that one," he said.
STARFISH PROGRAM
DMH Computers has created the “Starfish Program” to make a difference. The premise of the program is taking old, unused computers,
that would otherwise be thrown into a dumpster and sit for eternity, and turn them into usable, basic computers that can be donated back
to the community for use.
The first donation occurred when DMH Computers was able to donate 4 basic refurbished computers that were donated to DMH by
Corrigan Insurance in Beltsville, and take them to Change Inc., who works with the developmentally disabled. They are now able to use
these computers to teach basic computer skills to those that need them. Change is located in Westminster and for more information,
please contact Richard Glaser at (410) 876-2179.
Other charitable organizations that will be recipients of these refurbished computers are CompuKids which provides basic computers
for disadvantaged children by putting computers at home for them so that they won't be left behind. A program put together by the Carroll
County Technology Council. For more information, please call Bobby Keller at (443) 224-1262.
The Cancer Support Foundation is an advocate for individuals that have been diagnosed with Cancer. They work tirelessly to help
provide quality-of-life solutions for cancer survivors and their caregivers. For more information, please call Cindy Carter at (410) 964-9563.
